Architecture - buildings that is

About a week ago, I enjoyed another urban walk. My photos show Edwardian and Victorian house. A great Victorian industrial building, a converted open air swimming pool ( Lido), a nice recreation ground, a parade of shops and a pub. I stopped in a tea shop, not the pub, for refreshments.

Sadly timber details over period house entrances are ripped out and the red bricks painted white. Sigh ......

There is a car under all of that ivy. Lots of us want to know what type it is :)

Another amazing series of pictures, Richard. Thanks for letting us enjoy the beauty of your home town.

Two days ago I took advantage of the calm dry weather and went from a short walk. Here are some photographs. The early 20th century houses are not protected and not listed and they are not in a conservation area. However I like the decorative rendered panels on the front of them, something like pargetting.

We live quite close to open land and enclosures were horses are kept, and allotments next to a tennis and squash club....

The last two photographs show an area which is being cleared out ready for redevelopment as shops cinema etc.

Your postings of the local architecture are always a treat, Richard. Keep up the very good work.

Thanks Leelai, Hayles and Scifan.

I thought you would like the photos of the horses, Hayles. There must be over 20 separately rented / owned paddocks in this area.

Have you checked out the TubeWalks app, I don't use it as I have always walked between tube stations when the opportunity arises but some good info on there. Also, good views from the Thames Clipper which also has a bar on board(!) and there is an app for that too.

Yes Tubewalks is certainly on my iPad. I it's most informative and photographs taken along the routes are great. I must search out the Thames Clipper app, which sounds good.

Great photos, Richard. Every country seems to have unique architecture. You only have to glance at your photos and straight away you know that's England. Wish we had a bit of that greenery here, where everything seems parched and brown this summer.

Thanks, OB. You folks are suffering from drought, fires etc. I couldn't believe how easily a fire devil can be created by nature. The Kangaroo Dundee TV programme clearly showed this natural phenomenon taking place.

The UK is truly a green and pleasant land :)

Gee thanks my friend. I once had a job riding someone's show jumper and they were frightened by this truck but I managed to stay on. Riding in a town or city is and can be a frightening place. People just don't realise how wild a horse can be if you come too close with their car, bike etc... My horse however is so laid back that I doubt he would react at all. It's the thoroughbreds like race horses which are more nervy.

Here are some photos of the Anglican Cathedral in Regina. It was built in 1893-4 and is the oldest building in downtown Regina.
As you can see from the photos, there is a major addition under construction. This addition will be the new parish hall, which replaces the one built in the 1950's.
