After several attempts by third-party manufacturers to create arcade-style joysticks and cabinets for the iPad, Atari has decided to weigh in with its own authentic version, and it’s a real beauty! According to MacRumors, which features the Atari Arcade Duo Powered Joystick today, all you have to do to start playing classic arcade games such as Asteroids, Centipede and Missile Command on your iPad with an authentic Atari joystick, is place it in the stand as pictured, and away you go! MacRumors speculates as to how the joystick is connected to your iPad, surmising that it is probably hooked up via Bluetooth, which is also how the iCade arcade cabinet for iPad works, rather than by a direct connection with the dock connector. Apparently, Atari has also updated its Greatest Hits for iPad app to provide support for the new joystick. As yet, the joystick does not have a release date, or a price, but they should have details of a release date soon here.
