How to open 2 applications together??

Unfortunately you cannot do that, but if you exit an app you're able to go back onto it and it'll be in the exact way it was when you exited.

And you can do a four finger sideways swipe to go straight to that app......it's so quick it's like having both apps open at once!

Put four finger tips on the screen when using any app, then slide them towards the left.

Please can you tell me if there is a way to make a shortcut on the Ipad? For example, I get fed up with tying my email address so many times and it would be great to be able to e.g. tap a key combination to insert it. When I saw the title of this thread I thought that I might find the answer here!

Thanks for the picture. Unfortunately Settings>Keyboard doesn't show that option on my IPad. I assume that's because I haven't upgraded to iOs5 yet. Must get around to it!

You cannot open two apps at the same time but if you want to write notes and surf the Internet, you can use Side By Side
