I'm super mega ultra hungry.

Quake, how are you and your family? We have been seeing film of dreadful flooding there, especially in Manila. Do hope you are all safe.

Well, it's good to be mega hungry:-) but perhaps not cake. How about some iPadded Toad in the Hole?

Hey Quake--just heard from relatives in the PI. They sent me pics of the flooding in and around their homes. They have been up day and night trying to keep the water from coming in. Their driveway and backyard looks like a river. I feel so badly for them-- I hope you are ok as well.

I pray for their safety. The city looks like Venice now, surrounded by water. I guess it's not that difficult to imagine how Venice looks like. Boats everywhere. All we need is somebody to play the mandolin and violin.

Thank you Stranding. We are all safe in my area except those who live a few blocks away. It's a waist deep. The first floor of our house is still dry. The ground was raised a meter high before the building was constructed. It's as if we're surrounded by a moat.

Many thanks mollysmom, Hayles, Richard, AA, & leelai for all your nice comments & wishes! Much appreciated:-). Though looks are just the first hurdle, AA!

Hayles-- uuurrrggghhh...shockingly, it's 47 years... Had to work it out. We can't believe it. But the maths works out, however much we squirm:-(

But they say you're as old as you feel, don't they? And, inside we're both STILL gawky teenagers, enjoying life immensely :-):-):-)

Well, the nitty gritty...DH arrived home charged up with success, a very good start:-)

He said he had got his first ever bridge "Grand Slam".....which apparently means both bidding for, and successfully getting, a full number (not sure of number ?) of thingies...tricks? He & his partner have been learning a new way of bidding called "Five Card Majors" which is used by all the expert players.

And the club were playing fast-paced "Duplicate" bridge, new to them both, so rather stressful-- this particular club is all serious, eyes-down, "tut tut, that's not allowed" type of venue, no banter or coffee & cake break stuff. Nothing would tempt me there. NOT my scene at all:-(:-(:-(

But much more importantly, he was hungry!!! So his eyes lit right up & a slice went down Very Well Indeed. Success!!! He has also survived the night & wants more now, also a Good Sign (though he's not allowed any more--till cuppa tea time ...:-))

I had one too...for testing purposes only, you understand. Not bad at all! The almond icing was a good taste with the rest, and so was the apricot jam which had soaked into the very uneven base, making a nice squishy bottom!

Gabe, you will probably be safe if you want to chance it:-) Anyone else a bit peckish--at proper cuppa teatime--is welcome!

Well, that sounds like a promising result, you had a slice and you are still posting! I'll take a virtual slice if there is still one going?

OK, expect it at tea time. Good idea to have a plate ready to catch the squidge:-)

Crumpets! I have know idea what they are, but I've read about them and heard about them and now, I want some. Especially if they can be submerged in maple syrup.

It'll be a long throw down here!

A spot of discus throwing perhaps.

Ask & ye shall receive...a spare couple coming over:-)

They are quite a different type of "morning goods" as they call them (?). Made with a batter on a flat iron skillet (? Not sure if that name is right). Oh, Griddle?

Also called "pikelets" in the Midlands. Nothing like "Scotch pancakes" which are smaller and not thick & straight-sided. These two are supermarket frauds which look and feel like big, white & pasty, round, holey erasers...but once well-toasted & hot, the top gets hard & crunchy & the bottom is smooth; those holes hold the butter very neatly...they do leak a bit from the bottom but only if you're very slow!!!

Bit iffy about the maple syrup but suppose you could be excused that abhorrence.

Damn! I love crumpets with lashings of butter......I may have to pop down the shop again! Of course the downside is my chin becomes a butter trap!

Congratulations, stranding! A happy marriage is a wonderful thing.

Your cake looks lovely, and some crumpets would be a treat as well. (The closest North American equivalent that I know of are called English muffins.)

I'm having nothing but tea this morning. We had Burmese last night, and I was a glutton. Chicken curry and tea leaf salad were the highlights.
