What's new

Food anyone?

I suppose it's like a rich beefy taste? It spreads like peanut butter so you have to use sparingly because its too strong a flavour. Most people either love or hate it. No inbetween.

Use it sparingly? Never, it's lashings of marmite or nothing at all!

Sparingly? What a strange concept.

Ah! So that's what it means. ;) How boring. About to head into Wendy's for a major sized burger and chili.

Oh, it's like a thick, smooth paste.

Got it now! When I heard yeast extract, I thought powder for some reason.

Thanks, Guys for the explanation. I may have to go and look to see if our International Market has it or not!

Wow, when I posted the photo of the bottle of Marmite, I never expected to get this much mileage out of it! I may have to try some myself.

Now you should get hold of a jar easily enough, Sci.

BTW a mug of hot water mixed with a able spoonful of Marmite makes a great drink!

There is an alternative to Marmite; Bovril. I'm used to using Bovril as a base for gravy, but haven't tried it as a drink or a spread.

These images were thrown up when I Googled Bovril.

I've seen it at CostPlus and at least one of my neighborhood chain supermarkets, which has a small British foods section. I've never tried it, though, because it never sounded appealing.

Here's a larger display of Marmite.

Yes, I've had hot bovril and hot marmite drink. Lovely beefy drink in winter evenings. I've used both in stews, curries, soups etc... Use it like a stock cube.
