Gardening!

just lovely Richard, the Clematis is stunning, you're lucky living in Kent,i think you can grow things there that wouldn't survive here in the North......or oooop North as Gabe would say.

Yes, weeds, lots and lots of weeds! I remember walking in the Pennines and I don't remember seeing a single weed, none in Cumbria, none in Northumberland, none in Yorkshire but they are everywhere down here!!!

believe me there are plenty of weeds in Yorkshire,i swear someone comes in the night and plants them in my garden.

Loving all the garden pics that have been posted.

@ Richard, is it hard to get the clematis to climb like that? I have been eyeing some myself, but also need a trellis.

No, they are easy to grow. As long as the roots are well covered and cool, you just make sure it twines in the right area. Prune once a year depending on variety. Some flower in Spring, some in Summer and some in Autumn.

It's pretty straightforward. You need a trellis or chicken wire to suit the situation. The wire is quite unobtrusive and was my best solution for the arch framework.

We should have pruned the clematis back to within 12" of the roots to encourage flowers lower down the frame.

Thanks Poisonivy. We have about 20 different clematis dotted around the garden.

My sister in law complains about the difficult growing conditions in Sheffield. They have loads of conifers in their garden.

Don't mention the Leylandi! :(. We had a small screen of them which turned into a "large scream"! We took them out, moved the compost into 2 composters and built the summerhouse and decking in their place.

they really turned out to be a nightmare,we had about 60 back and front, nothing would grow near them and the the mess they made, plus the hard work in trimming them as they grew so fast,i'm so glad we took them out.

Yes, I do like your garden photos, Poisonivy :). You have a nice secluded area. Your hostas are terrific.
