Well guess what, Ive had mine pre ordered since last Thursday. EDU-IPAD/MC916LL/S/N 64 IPAD 2 WIFI, BLK. I paid $757.74 and then got $100 off because of a special education discount that my college gives to good students who qualify from our Apple Campus Store. I get to pick it up on Friday @ 11, assuming the shipment from fedex did what it did last year, which it will be before anyone else gets theres. High five to me!

They anticipate first day supplies but I can't be bothered to queue and my iPad1's will still be working fine until it arrives.

Is there a substantial difference in the education purchase price for an iPad?

Just want to keep it in mind for the next time I make an Apple purchase, if it is worth the hassle.

Apple.com orders start at 3:01 am EST on Friday (Thurs night). That way it's Friday on all the continental US when the online sales start.

I suppose individual Apple retailers can do pre-orders for their stock etc. They're not supposed to per Apple's rules of no pre-orders and no sales until 5pm. But I suppose that's their risk to take on Apple finding out and maybe withholding future stock from them.

Apple offers in every country education purchase. If you look at the country Apple web site you will find a link to education purchase. Conditions apply . In Addition to Apple direct only certified Apple Education resellers in ANY country can offer the discount and yes it is a lot considering the margin for resellers is only 5% usual discount varies from country to country. Average is 10% pending product. So if you do qualify as a high education student or teacher or professor than yes you can save money. The fact that they offered pre purchase has nothing to do with the retail channels.

Ps I have been a specialist Apple reseller (VAR)in Australia from 1993 to 1988 and I am fully familiar with the different retail channels that Apple offers I also when I lived in USA for 12 years was employed as a Sales manager of a Salinas, Ca Apple dealer from 1983 to 1988 we were certified Education resellers

After browsing around the Apple Store UK it appears, that they don't offer discounts for the iPad, only for macs and some software.

Go education then Ed store I must admit I have not checked the ipad maybe it is only larger computers on Britain strange if one of the users in us received a student discount on apple Ed site

Good job...you all did your research. Obviously I could not have gotten an apple education discount on an iPad. Thats a my bad on that one. I got $100 off when I went back an bought an iMac for my parents the next day. Sorry for the confusion. Anyways to ajneuman, jhood2323, and col.bris...which ever one of you said that I cant until Friday you are wrong Sir, assuming your all gentlemen like myself. Just under the right circumstances we have an authorized campus store that just can just do whatever the hell they want I guess. It looks like me and Hasty will be enjoying our iPad's while you guys or gals are struggling to enter your 16 digit credit/debit card # on apples website, which you can do here...
