Help: Following software update, locked out!

Yeah yeah guys -- you get A++ for your assist. MY DILEMMA IS NOW OVER. Yes, I'm making this official: problem solved. All the apps (106) came back and the data that goes with them ...we tested a few. That one message I got claiming "some items could not be restored" might have been a fluke, a glitch - doubt it's anything real serious.

So I leave on a very happy note!
 
Congratulations! I'm glad the restore finally ended successfully. It seems your frustration at the slow speed of the restore was the result of the slow internet connection.

BTW, the red badge with a number in it on your App Store icon represents the number of apps that need updating.
 
As you have just experienced doing a restore from iCloud can take a considerable amount of time. You can also do a backup and have it stored on your PC instead, and restoring from that would take far less time to complete.
