Apple has developed a "Reading List" function for Safari
The Mercury browser lets you save any displayable file (PDF, HTML, images,etc.) to its internal storage. From there, it can be emailed or opened in any other appropriate app.

They also work pretty well (and, if you set them up beforehand, you won't need an Internet connection).

Thanks! I have read the dummy page. It does say the Reading List needs Internet connection. So it doesn't matter how well the setup is unless extra app is installed. Seeing that I can't tell the difference or advantage of having an item in reading list over a bookmark. I wonder why there is a reading list in the first place. . .
You will need an account for Pocket (so the app/service knows for whom it's saving articles). Once you have an account, you can sign in to save articles to it.
Under iOS 5.x the Reading List was just a temporary place to keep track of articles you wanted to read later. The features made it easier to add, read, mark read, and delete the article links; as well as keeping them in one convenient place.
