What's new

If you are new, please post an introduction thread.

Hello peeps, new to the whole Apple World. Formerly a PC only user, now realizing I'm still a PC user with this new iPad 2 Wi Fi. Just got laid off and I thought a tablet would be useful on the go for applying to places, etc. Little did I know prior to that everything is different. I mean pages, docs to go, save2pdf..... What can I say it is a different animal. Seems kind if cumbersome having to convert everything in order to send, or view certain docs and videos. Either way, I'm hanging in there!

With regard to "things being different", yes and no. I was in your shoes not that many years ago and at first it seemed a little daunting, however I found the learning curve to be very short due to Apple's intuitive nature. The programs you mention will all handle MS documents with almost no issues at all. I think you'll quickly find that living in the world of Apple is different in a good way and very, very rewarding.

Impressed with apple after all!

Hihi. I'm in love with this new glowing gadget. Obsessive compulsive dream it is. I started off with my daughters iPhone and got sucked in bad and aquifer one for myself . I asked for the iPad which I'd been coveting for a while and I'm sold on apple now. I use my pc for work but may try an apple soon for that too. I mostly waste time playing silly games and I'm just amazed at the amount of wonderfully creative apps that are available. I'm looking for a good medicine app that will help me organize meds for my sister who is quite ill with stage IV renal cancer. The one I found is lacking and not updated. Anyway, hello all!

Got an iPad2 a month ago. I am a PC user. I have mixed feelings about the iPad2. On the plus side: beautiful product, love touch technology (I don't miss mouse, keyboard). On the minus side: moving data to/from PC is awful and dangerous, I should be able to copy a pic without having to deal with iTunes. Can't figure out simple things like deleting an album. Yes, I am sure there are answers to all my problems if I search this forum and carefully read the manual (I tried), but I thought ease of use was the key point.
Summing up: the iPad2 is GREAT, but if Wintel comes up with a decent tablet that's more open and does not force on me iTunes, I'll switch to it like I switched from Mac to Windows 3.0 (inferior to the Mac around 1990).
Apple may be making the same mistake they made with the Mac, great device, wrong market model in the long run.

Hi and welcome to the Forum, I agree with you, the iPad is totally addictive and the hours just fly by. Have a look around, do some searches, that's the best way to answer a lot of your questions. There are some Doctors and trainees in the forum, they may be able to steer you to a good app for medicines and such for your sister. I am so sorry to hear about her condition. If you can't find what you're looking for, then post your question, there are many here only too willing to help you. Enjoy!!

Hi and welcome to the Forum. Yes the iPad does take some getting use to, but well worth it I think. Its an exciting time right now for the iPad with the release of IOS5 any day, which will put an end to our reliance on iTunes, so lots of changes are coming up in that respect. Have a look around, doing some searches is really the best way to learn though. If you can't find what you're after then by all means post your question, there's many here only too willing to help you. Enjoy!!

Hello,

Thanks for the 'heads-up information on this...Just found this forum, looks great!

I just bought a 'used' (but new to me) Apple iPad, my very first one of these devices - on its way being shipped to me.

I never owned or used one before, so it will be a new learning experience for sure.

I was reading about an upgrade OS - iOS 5 coming out, if I understand correctly,
this is applicable to being able to be used (upgraded) - on my iPad device, correct?

How does one do this?

I also bought a used (new to me) iPod Touch, my very first one of these devices also.

Thanks again,

Have a nice day/evening,

Ed

With respect to your question, yes, your iPad will be eligible for the free upgrade and upgrading is quite simple. iOS 5 is being released tomorrow so it sounds like you can upgrade after you get your iPad. Basically you'll need to have iTunes on your computer. iTunes is free. If you don't already have it, download it here. When you connect your iPad to your computer iTunes should automatically open and after authorizing your iPad and your iTunes account you'll probably get an immediate notification of the availability of an upgrade. Click "Okay" and that's about it. After this particular update future upgrades won't even require you to connect your iPad to your computer for upgrades...it will be done wirelessly. More details can be found in the free iPad User Manuals linked above.

Welcome again and enjoy!
