It may have been a watchtower to maintain a lookout for enemy ships.

It definitely was a watchtower. Certainly not for enemy ships. The lake isn't deep (1,5 - 2 m), and sometimes there was no water at all. It was told that people from Illmitz could walk to Mörbisch without getting wet, long time ago.

That's German. Did you read it in English? It says that it was used as vantage point in the Pannonian plain.

Google translate can be so helpful.

The word "Tabor" is an old Slavic word and stands for the German word "view". Thus, it is clear that before the present ruin remains were long as watchtower or Royal retreat in use, the hill was far above the present Neusiedl am See the various peoples who lived here as a vantage point in the Pannonian plane.

What can still be seen today as a ruin on the mountain which also bears the name Tabor is, by some experts as the former estates of Queens Anna (1296) and Maria (1390), by others but known as a medieval watchtower or royal castle residence. Some trace the tower stump even the 16th Century. Here you can see that the experts agree is not at all like the old tower is actually. It was even adopted a few years ago, the tower could be a roman temporal structure. Recently, however, the assumption is substantiated, it is a building from the Middle Ages, and Some Other identify the residence as a widow as a defensive tower. At the time of the Tower Hill Kuruzzenüberfälle with Wall, ditches and entrenchments was increased (see Figures 01, 02 + 18]
