I’m sure part of it could have been reused.
I haven’t seen a house deconstructed to recycle the materials for over 5o years.

In addition to two 'grandcats', we now have a 'granddog', puppy named Brody, a Maltese 'toy dog breed' - pic below from son's FB post (we did group FaceTime last night to see him live - will be visiting them in October for a 'personal introduction') - the cats have ignored us for years, so expecting much affection from Brody! -

Well, several 'first' pics of our front yard island on my new iPhone XR - believe my Japanese red maple has grown a foot since last shown - neighbor's house on the second pic - sorry about the yard - all yards around here look terrible, i.e. very hot and dry last few months. Dave
P.S. Pics taken in the new HEIC and were not accepted as an upload, so converted to .PNG - this format can be easily changed in the 'Camera Settings' from 'High Efficiency' to 'Most Compatible' - suspect that this will become an accepted format on the forums in the future.

Hi TP - thanks for the comments - reading Pogue's book and on the camera chapter, so trying to understand the changes - now I don't use any of the iCloud photo options, such as Photo Stream, Shared Folders, etc. so not sure if the 'Transfer to Mac or PC' makes a difference in my usage. As seen below first pic left, the 'Automatic' setting is selected.
In my 'Camera Capture' format, 'High Efficiency' captures in HEIF/HEIC format whereas the 'Most Compatible' setting will revert to another format, such as JPEG - I took 2 pics (below) of my den in each of these settings - as suspected HEIC was the format w/ high efficiency on while JPEG w/ the most compatible setting; these pics from the iPhone were sent to my MBPro via Air Drop - to upload to this forum the HEIC images were 'grayed out' - have not yet tried to upload the newer format on other forums I use - SO, still have some learning/exploring to do w/ Pogue's book! Also, I assume the forum could easily change their server software to accept the HEIC format? Dave

If for some reason the HEIC images are what got transferred to the Mac, instead of them being converted to jpg, then that’s probably the issue. The Automatic only works when transferring from the iPad/iPhone. That, of course, leaves the question of why the format was not changed when transferring to the Mac.
I always upload to the forum from my iPad or iPhone. Since I don’t have a Mac handy, I can’t test what’s happening there.
As for settings, mine are the same as those you show, except I have Summarize Photos turned off. That should not make a difference. Having iCloud Photo Library turned off should not make a difference when posting from the iPad or iPhone. It might make a difference if you were using it to sync to the Mac’s Photos app, but you are not, so still don’t now why your photos are transferring to the the Mac as HEIC.
If you are using the Mac’s photos app, then you might want to check it’s settings for a similar option. If you are directly saving to and uploading from a folder, then there is probably no control on the Mac to automatically change formats. Though a through perusal of Safari’s settings might show something.

Well, I'll have to do some more reading and trials - so far, setting my iPhone to 'Most Compatible' would provide JPEG images, but HEIC provides better resolution images at a smaller size - now, if Apple can convince the PC world to accept/promote this newer format, then hopefully the forums (none of which at the moment that I upload images to accept this format) will add the option?
BUT - did some more testing - again, first used 'Air Drop' (by far the easiest choice in my mind to get photos from an iDevice to a Mac computer) and selected both the HEIC & JPEG images from the phone -> went to my MBPro unchanged (maybe there is an Air Drop switch?); then I used to photo transfer apps (circled in the pic below) that have been on my iPads for a number of years - both transferred the images to my laptop w/o a format change (although PhotoSync offered to convert the HEIC image to JPEG).
