The top of that pole reminds me of a stork's nest, similar to the photos I took in Latvia 3 years ago, (below). I don't suppose it could be as you would have had to raise up the pole after decorating it. Nice to see the old customs still being kept up.

It simply is the top of the tree, with a little decoration on it. This year it's the only maypole. When I was young, there were at least 12 of them in my village. On May 1 we went searching for them.

We have a pole with a stork's nest, too. The only one here. Usually, storks build their nests on the chimneys where I am.
 
That might be because of the heavy clouds near the horizon. The photo was shot through the window in a door with my iPhone.

When we have clouds here, the sky is red or orange, or yellow (or grey like today).

Whoever cleans the windows must be working thoroughly. I thought you were standing outside when you took your picture.
