So, back to present time and Orca. The first thing to do is to use a high pressure sand/water blasting to get all the barnacles and loose paint off.

Been away only a few days (motoring holiday of wine region, incorporating a wedding anniversary), only to come back to the most marvellous photos and posts. Birds and other wildlife, boats and their maintenance, house on a little island, melting snow and waterways, even a beautiful quilt made by school kids. All that interesting reading to catch up on. Transom, - as good a place as any to start sanding her down.

Some damage to the wood above the waterline. Sand/water blasting yet to be done here.

Thanks.... LOL... . Her name has been Orca since she was built in 1959. She's a 38', classic Herreshoff ketch, designed by L. Francis Herreshoff.
