ipad 2 won't sync

Hello all I am new to the site I am from wisconsin and have been a iphone owner for some time and just purchased a ipad 2. I synced it the first time and it worked then I did the update and now when I plug it in there is an error code that says a Ipad was plugged in but not found please unplug and try again with no luck? Any ideas?
