What's new

Is anyone here a first time Apple user?

iPad 1 was my first Apple product and I don't expect to buy any more. The Apple "closed system" concept is supposed to make it easier to setup and use their products. "Do it our way and your life will be easier" (kind of like Socialism). In spite of that promise I had to purchase three different routers before I solved my iPad WiFi problems and if I want to do direct printing, I have to buy a new printer. Just too many limitations.

When the competitive pads get up to speed watch for me on Ebay.

Well, I bought an Apple II+ in 1980 which we used for 6-7 yrs; switch to a PC w/ DOS and our first HD in the mid-80s (more a business/home compatibility issue). Up until last year, I've used just PCs w/ MS software.

About to replace my main desktop computer and will stick w/ a PC w/ Windows 7 - wife & I are use to the MS Office suite and used all of its features - would be tough to switch at our ages; although I have an old IBM laptop w/ Ubuntu (Linux distro) which I've enjoyed using (has Open Office), and all is FREE!

So, update - I needed a new Palm-type device and my son (an IT guy) had an iPod Touch 2G laying around and gave it to me - I was able to transfer all of my data, add TONS of music, and have enjoyed the device.

Wife & I do a LOT of local 'short' travel vacations and I've usually taken a laptop w/ either MS or Ubuntu (love to use w/ these 'open' hotel Wi-Fi options) - so wanted a new option w/ small size and a device to handle our needs on the road, mainly just checking e-mail, browsing the web, and checking on local restaurants, etc. The iPad2 seemed like a good choice - will take on the road for the first time soon - will report back! :)
