Recent rumors point to October 22nd as the date Apple will unveil the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2. As leaks have shown us in the past, the iPad 5 will take on the iPad Mini design, while the iPad Mini 2 will receive a Retina display update.
According to Brian White, a Cantor Fitzgerald analyst, the iPad 5 will indeed be unveiled with all of the rumored specs next week. However, White believes that Apple will unveil an iPad Mini 2 without a Retina display, holding off until Q1 of 2014 to offer such a device. The analyst claims next week's rumor event will focus mainly on the iPad "largey" and the iPad Mini 2 will receive minor hardware upgrades.

Apple fans shouldn't worry too much according to several reports from AllThingsD and other publications claiming the iPad Mini 2 will indeed sport a Retina display. The rumored date for Apple's iPad Event a little of over a week away, we should be seeing invite go out sometime this week.

“Interestingly enough, the accessories for a potential new iPad mini were not updated at the trade shows we attended, and the data points around a new iPad mini during our discussions were few,†White wrote in a note to clients on Monday morning. “Some of our contacts at the trade shows believe that minor changes (e.g., faster processor, etc.) will be made on the next iteration of the iPad mini for the Special Event on October 22 but that a major upgrade with Retina Display will not occur until 1Q:14. As such, we expect Apple’s October 22 Special Event to be more important for the larger iPad family, with the iPad 5 enjoying a meaningful overhaul, but we anticipate only a modest upgrade to the iPad mini and without the Retina Display.â€
