Noob questions on 'hacks'

I've heard much whispers and discussion of jail breaking before my first Apple purchase two months ago and gave little attention to it.

Now that I've bought an ipad3 for my autistic foster son, I have some basic questions that might already have an old thread that answers.

A. What are three popular reasons to stay in jail ?
B. what are three popular reasons to jailbreak ?

C. Define terms /apps etc used in jail breaking ? So, e.g. spring, winterboard, and other words I've seen. Are these 'apps' only for jail birds, or prisoners too?

D. Is there a basic tutorial / intro to the world of jail breaking ? i.e. what you can do,install at beginning. Do I have to give up anything ?

Sent from my iPad using iPF, still lots room left in 64GB

To start to learn about jail breaking, have a look at this thread: http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2838-jailbreak-explained-new-updated-2011-a.html

Then, have a read through the posts in our Hacking sub-forum. There are a lot of posts there where people describe what they can/can't do with a jail broken iPad. One very good thread to read is this one: http://www.ipadforums.net/showthread.php?t=25824

It talks about all the tweaks available to make your iPad do what you wish.

Guarantee - after reading all that's in the Hacking section - you'll have a much better idea of what jail breaking is (and isn't).

Happy reading! :)

A) good food, free satellite tv, no need to work!

B) free your iProduct, manipulate your themes, fully enjoy your own personal iProduct........simples!

C) read this - http://www.ipadforums.net/jailbreak-applications-tweaks/25824-ultimate-list-jailbreak-tweaks.html

D) read this - http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2838-jailbreaking-explained.html

I second the point in A, but I don't think you get to choose which channels. I don't want to watch Judge Judy.... NCIS or CSI please~

With respect to question 1, next to nothing I would say. It's always been said that if you jailbreak your device, you're making your device more vulnerable, which really isn't the case to be honest. I mean if someone were to take the measure to hijack or maliciously manipulate your phone, they might as well just rob you in person. That's probably the main reason or old stigma that's been implanted in the majority of the population.
