January 16, 2003 – The Space Shuttle Columbia takes off for mission STS-107 which would be its final one. Columbia disintegrated 16 days later on re-entry.

I was in Ft Worth, outside to watch when it was coming in for it's landing, I think it was about 8:00 in the morning and the paper said it was going to be a good show as it streaked across the sky. Not something I will forget, there was no question what happened.
