July 10, 1940; The Battle of Britain begins when 120 German fighters and bombers attack a British convoy in the English Channel. A further 70 bombers attack dockyard installations in South Wales.
 
July 11, 1962: Project Apollo: At a press conference, NASA announces Lunar Orbit Rendezvous as the means to land astronauts on the Moon, and return them to Earth.
