What's new

On this day in history.

Wikitravel:

In the 1980s, the aging highway was decommissioned. Much of its stretch had been overlaid or routed around by broader, newer interstate highways. But the embedded idea of Route 66 refuses to die – as demonstrated by the 2006 Disney/Pixar movie Cars – and thousands of kicks-seekers continue to follow the remnants of the road from Chicago to Los Angeles to this day.

I have friends that have travelled to Detroit to pick up new Camaros and Challengers and travelled back on the old 66. Still a great trip and they brought back a lot of fabulous pictures.

A work colleague ticked off one from his bucket list. He and his wife hired a Harley Davidson to travel a good portion of Route 66. Their holiday was for 2 weeks.

Very brave of them. I know so many people that won't travel 60 miles down the hill in their car, I will never understand that.
