As hard as it is to believe today, as recent as February 2, 1998 then president Bill Clinton presented a balanced budget. Possibly the last time it will happen here.

In 1959 on February 3, the music died. Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson) and Richie Valens died along with their pilot, Roger Peterson in a single plane crash.

March 4, 2014...today is IHOP National Pancake Day which began in 2006 and have raised over $13 Million for charitable causes in local communities.

Have some pancakes today and help raise funds for your community! :)

Today Australians commemorate Anzac Day.

The day our Anzacs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula on 25 April 1915.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them......

Although it's a fictional account of the landing, the Peter Weir Film 'Gallipoli' starring Mark Lee, is just breathtaking. Have seen it many times and I still cry.

Admiral, isn't it a wonderful film! I just loved it and I do the same......gosh, I'm tearing up now thinking about it all! But then it is Anzac Day and we have been reading and seeing so much about it in the lead up to this day.

Hubby and I met Mark Lee a few years after the film was made, it left it's mark on him also....

That must have been something to meet Mark Lee.

Bill Hunter's portrayal of Major Barton was also moving. The character was such a tortured soul; especially the scene before they storm the trenches and he's listening to an opera on a wind-up gramophone.

May have to watch it again this weekend.

It was certainly special meeting him, we were seeing him just about every day for 4 months when we were running hubby's Aunt's shop in Bondi, Sydney years ago. A lot of TV and movie people frequented the shop, so we got to meet a lot of them. It was a nice 'extra'.....funnily enough hubby's aunt had no idea who any of them were! Whereas we just never knew who would walk in next! ;)

Bill Hunter is a fav for many Aussies......he was just so home grown and a legend!! You certainly remember the film well! ;)

Now I want to see it again and I'm thinking it just may be scheduled sometime soon!

We've just had a F/A-18F Super Hornet fly past down the coast as part of the days commemorative displays. I just wasn't fast enough to grab a pic....and it flew straight past our height! What a sight!!
