What's new

On this day in history.

December 20, 1988: German-speaking premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opéra" in the Theater an der Wien, Vienna/Austria.

This had a huge impact on California - James Marshall found a chunk of gold, (and a pretty nugget it was) that really helped bring people across the land and into the state, on January 24, 1848. In fact this is what brought on the gold rush in 1949. Many people in the state are still panning for gold today.

January 29, 1942 - Iran signed the "Treaty of Alliance" with Great Britain and the Soviet Union offering protection to Iran with the intent of opening up a supply route from the West to Russia.
