Update: Apple says mute button not muting is normal-
I called Apple and was asked what I was trying to mute: I was then told that Pandora doesn't "obey" the mute button. After the call, I went to npr.org and the mute button wouldn't mute that, either. However, mute works on Starwalk.
So I guess that's okay. The screen volume-flicker phenomenon is still a bit disconcerting, though.
