What's new

SciFi Discussion Lobby

Luke looks a little short.:) it would sure be nice to be able to take home some of those prop replicas, like R2 D2.

This fleet of 'Dalek' replicas went mobile Friday night.

But the venue was so congested yesterday (Saturday) they had to remain stationary for fear of running over people.

Was hoping to return to the site for a few events today but I'm falling behind on things that need doing in the real world.

Here's a bit more science. Rather than opening a new thread, I thought I'd chuck it here, since most SF aficionados are into real science too.

The speed of light is 38 mph. This is fact! Discussion is open.

Through ice?

Damn. That didn't last long. Not ice, but your thinking is sound. Light is slowed by substance. The substance that slows it to 38 mpg is supercooled sodium.

Um, scifan. Could you use your moderator superpowers to correct my foul-up? On the other hand, now it's been seen and quoted, I'll just go bury my head in some silicon dioxide. I'll report back later on how long it takes light to catch up.

Better to just proceed to '10 Forward' and swill the night away with Saurian brandy and the company of the Duras sisters. :)

I cannot find it on iPlayer, Gabe.

Here's why...

I think you can watch "live" on iPlayer but not all programmes are licensed to be streamed at a later date. Some programmes do get a limited iPlayer run after being broadcast then are removed, I've no idea what category that programme falls into.

See, you should have watched it when you had a chance!

Iain M. Banks died yesterday, in the early hours of the morning.

I was just reading about this in today's paper. He had cancer.

After he learned of his cancer, he married his long-time partner, Adele. He said that he asked her to do him the honour of "becoming my widow".

He had a unique way dealing with that disease. I don't know how I would have reacted if that had happened to me.
His last book is not yet published. He had hoped to live to see that.

This is the logo for TorCon 3, the third World Science Fiction Convention for Toronto, held in 2003. Note the animal themed adaptation of the Star Wars poster design. I like the fact that they chose a squirrel as The Luke Skywalker character.
