Sound alerts

Hi I am a new I pad owner and would like to know if you can have sound alerts for new e mail ect when the pad is turned off or if the only way alerts work is when you turn pad on. Thenks

If your iPad is fully turned off (as in, you did the "slide to power off" maneuver), then you will not receive notifications until you turn the iPad back on.

However, if you put the iPad to sleep, by press the button opposite the Home button, then it will continue to check for or receive notifications.
