Yay! Anyone else update to IOS5.01? I've got multi gestures. Yippee!!! It's like a new iPad. No synch to laptop. Hallelujah. Straight into iPad itself.

11-11-11 - What Does It Mean?!

Welcome to 11-11-11! Just thought I'd throw that out there. :)

At eleven o'clock, eleven minutes, eleven seconds it will be:

11-11-11-11:11:11

That will happen twice today (unless you have a 24 hour clock).

Anyone into numerology? I have no idea what that might mean! Should I put my tin foil hat on now? :D

Very clever Rich. We've already had the first lot of 11's here. I'll look out for the second lot. Don't know if it has any special meaning but we will never see it again. That tin foil hat just might come in handy but better if you're sitting under a perfect pyramid also :)

6 minutes to go. 2 minutes' silence for remembrance. Then, it all happens again on the first Sunday after the 11th during morning church services.

FTWDK, the poppy was chosen because poppies grew in the battlefields of France, and were seen as symbolic of the blood spilled by the fallen. That's put very simplistically.

I never knew that, I always wondered why it was chosen.

Today on Veteran's Day I honor and remember my grandpa who served in the Korean War in the United States Army. He died when I was 5, but I hope I'll have an opportunity in the next life to properly thank him for his service (and get to know him).

I suppose we Brits just know that and expect others to know it too.

You don't see it as often now, but red poppies are also worn for remembrance in the U.S. When I was a wee one the vets (veterans) used to sell them on a little card for a donation. They weren't real poppies, just little ones...can't recall if they were plastic or silk or what...

Sad that we don't see that as much now.

Oh! I thought it was universal but I suppose different countries do it in their own way.

Ugh are iCloud backups supposed to take this long? Probably going on 25 minutes now.
If you performed a full backup at one point (which can be time consuming), subsequent backups will be incremental...only updating the data that has changed. Depending on your Wi-Fi network speed, broadband speed/connection, an incremental backup shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

I just performed an iCloud backup on my iPad and it took less than 60 seconds, however I have relatively fast broadband upload speeds (around 20 Mbps). I also didn't have much if any data changes.

Some of the same tips that apply to upgrading can also apply to backups...

iOS 5 Upgrade Troubleshooting

If it's taking more than five or ten minutes (again, depending on your broadband speed) your connection has probably timed out. Go ahead and stop it and try again or try again later.

This is the first time I've done iCloud, but still. It just hit 3 hours with apparently an hour remaining. The bar continues to move up so I assume it's still working.
