Many thanks to everyone who liked the pictures i posted of Cutty Sark, Richard Brown, going to Greenwich with your family from America is a great idea, take the boat ride to Westminister too on the Thames. guess what, today after work i saw a google car with the camera on top probably doing the streetmap , i took a picture and video of it, which i will post later from the phone. Anyways the google car driver saw me filming him on my phone so he sped off quick like a rascal :)

On a sad note, 2 people at work lost thier jobs due to budget cuts and others have to pick up the slack. They finish end of may, and are scrambling to find replacement jobs :(

Hi Good karma. Thanks for the suggestion, i have enjoyed river trips in the past on the regular service.

I like it re the driver Googling off :D. All I ever see are the council's traffic cam smart cars.

Sorry to hear about your colleagues. I've been through the mill on that score. I was made redundant in the 90s - found a job the following week as an agency surveyor. Then, within the last 7 years, I went through very worrying times when the Local Authority dismembered and virtually removed the architects & surveying department. Luckily, I kept my job, but tried to help many others who lost their jobs. I can see this scenario being repeated in different places over the next 2 or 3 years. It can pay off to think laterally in these situations. Certainly try to remain positive and be prepared to work hard.

I've taken the boat ride down the river many times, it's great. If you use the Thames Clipper its cheaper than the boat tours and you see all the same things!

I used to use the Woolwich ferry. That's free. You don't get to see much, but you can't beat the value.

I used that every day for a year and a half......I hated the queues!

That was in the good old days when the queues were worse for the Dartford Tunnel. That was one ugly piece of road before the bridge was built.

It's not much better now as traffic has built up again over the years.......crossing the QE2 bridge may be an Olympic Event!

The docklands light railway has a terminal in Woolwich. I think the terminal is now 2 years old; the link to Stratford from Woolwich is most welcome.

BTW. HM the Queen opened the Cutty Sark this morning. Check out the London TV news reports. :)

No matter where you are in the world - there's always something in the night sky to take your breath away.
