Sure are! I'd give mine away any day. I've replaced them with iBooks and kindle. Lol

I gave away hundreds of books that I had collected over the years to the local hospice charity shop.....li did keep quite a few that were special to me.

True true. St Margaret's hospice in our local high street gets mine. And yes, the favourites are kept.

So sad to hear about that 22 year old woman killed by a landslide near Bridport. Same coastline my school trip went on last week. The guide was also cautious about going near the bottom of the cliff at Lyme Regis too. Too dangerous with all the rain we've had recently.

What's your choice of bell??
We Brits have all been asked to ring a bell--any bell--at exactly 8.12am (Greenwich Mean Time) this morning. That's because it will be 12 hours exactly before the start of the Olympic 2012 opening in London. Is that Exciting or what?:-) specially at this time of the morning!
So, ever the obedient child, here's what I'm ringing:

Hi Stranding, where have you been?

While you were away, a thread called "The London Olympics 2012" has been started. Is it worth posting this there?

I was about to say, I haven't heard about the bell ringing, then Chris Evans is talking about the bell ringing right now. I will listen out..

Sorry, didn't spot that new thread. I will go & find it.

I've been missing you lot--had some sudden family problems. Need to catch up...

Hi stranding. I was wondering where you were too. Welcome back! You were missed!

Many thanks Richard & mollysmum, it's very good of you to say that.

Unfortunately this has involved major life challenges for a relative, including protracted divorce, house sale, new house search & purchase, money worries, major illness--much of it more or less all at once.

Each on its own would be difficult for anyone. But somehow much has now been resolved in the last weeks and we are suddenly on the other side of it all, able to look forward.

Here's a photo to show a bit of how I am feeling now: this is the River Thames taken from Radcot Bridge in Oxfordshire, UK, which is one of the oldest crossings of the river and the site of a famous battle in 1387.

Stranding-- doesn't it always go like that? It can never be one challenge at a time, it has to be many all at once. The picture is beautifully stark to me. It seems there is lots of potential for green leaves and growth-- in time. It really is a beautiful picture. I may steal that for a watercolor. :-)

Yes, it's true, things seem to go along in bunches. Makes it very hard to cope.
You're welcome to use the photo. It turned out to be a special one, the way some do...(& some don't:-()
Taken on a lovely sunny day in the winter. If I went down there today, it would be completely different!

Yes, that's true and thank you for the reminder.
Here's another photo that just worked too which will set the Olympics going nicely.
It's of Stanway House fountain(*) (Gloucestershire, UK) at full height which is a shocking, bone-shaking thing to be near, a storm was coming in fast, and as I clicked, the swan appeared. Magical!

(*) The fountain is purely gravity-fed, the tallest in the world. More here:
