At the tenderest age of 6 - a friend's cousin from "America", came north for the summer. He had a suitcase full of comics and boys adventure books. He was from the "big city" and we were dazzled.
It still fantasize about defying gravity with only a cape and a pair of shiny boots. However my mass these days means I'd have to bend the rules of physics beyond the comic book realm if I hoped to become airborne. Rocket fuel being expensive these days .. well ... what's a mere mortal to do?

"Mere mortal"? Didn't know that. Another little snippet to add to the Learnt Today file!
But I can well understand--a whole Suitcase full of Comics & Adventure Books?? A wonderful box of magic to be completely devoured!! Used to get the same intense feeling when the weekly comic arrived through the letter box, tucked into the paper, smelling newly inky. Can't resist them now either, like many others it seems
Then, I took the illustrations for granted, sort of. Saw them as being different from others in "proper" books, but I was always very impressed by their skill & took in every tiny detail, devouring them wholesale. They made a deep & lasting impression on me--again, in common with the millions of others
Can't say I ever wanted to use a cape & boots to defy gravity...but then, here I am thinking of the defying gravity job of getting mounted up on a tall horse with nothing but a box & pair of husbandly hands, arms, shoulders & head to help. "Good job we're married" he remarked after the last bungling fumbling fiasco
But I did try to draw my own comics, Mekon included.
Just listened to the great Star Trek music on "Classic FM" here...interesting that it's now classed as that, but not surprised.
