What's new

The "Anything Goes" thread

My iPhone 5 doesn't arrive until the 2nd of October.:(

I figured I was just wasting my time. I was really surprised when they had some. It's the first year that my local Verizon has carried iPhones opening day. They are usually a month or two behind the curve.

From what I've been reading elsewhere, Apple has done a much better job of supplying smaller stores this year.

Preorders, on the other hand, got badly hammered within the first two hours.

I hear adversity is good for the soul. Can't you feel yourself improving?

The glass is still my favourite thing about it. It feels so beautiful in your hand. I haven't had the heart to cover it up.

It does that. However; when you get the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 5S (or whatever they call it) I think you'll be just as pleased. It's different, but just as nice.

I pre-ordered on the first day but missed the start time by a few hours. By then the delivery delay had increased to two weeks. The current delay is about a month.

Oh, the gathering speed of technology has faltered! LOL

I'll take your word for it then. I do love the sound of it and GoodKarma sent me some photos of it in her local store. After all, if Gab and everyone else has bought one, it must be good.

Guess who else has bought one? Tim Spracklen, our very own Super Moderator! He went into his store and lo and behold they had some too. In Scotland.

Wow! Well done Tim ;)

I will take a peek, then. My current mobile (a trusty old Motorola folding model) is cutting out etc these days.

Oh Lordy, Richard. You are definitely up for a new one. My advice is don't think of it as just a phone. It's a minicomputer! I use it about 5 times a day as a phone but more for the 3G/2G updates on news, email, imessage, camera(it takes beautiful photos and video), books, and my favourite music. While at work or in the car, I listen to my music. It's my mini iPad as my iPad 3 is wifi so when I can't access wifi, my iPhone 4 takes over. Loads of contracts out there from £29 upwards (down payment) and 18/24 month contract. You won't regret it.

Don't forget I still love my iPhone 4 so you aren't necessarily going to have to buy the 5. There are 3 beautiful versions of these wonderful idevices. I'm on Tesco O2. I've never regretted my decision, ever! I wouldn't go back to my Samsung phone.
I'm not sure whether Tim has upgraded his iPad 1 yet. I'll ask.

Thx Hayles. I am on an Orange pay as you go plan which suits my budget very well. However all of the extra features tempt me to a monthly package. I would like to keep my current number which is great for remembering. It revolves round the Boeing 747 rather nicely. A PM to follow! ;)

EDIT. sorry, I don't intend to hijack the thread, but what are Google maps like on iPhone 4? It would be handy to carry the underground map, and screen shots of walking routes from Google Maps.

I'm hoping someone will answer my challenge in What is it? The challenge is straightforward. It took me some effort in putting it together. I hope someone will have a go at answering it :)

Well, if you get the iPhone 4, make sure it's got iOS 5 because google maps isn't on iOS 6. That and YouTube have disappeared. I've downloaded the YouTube app but there is currently no google maps at the moment. Google have applied to App Store and are waiting for apple to let them sell it. I'm assuming everyone on ios6 will be downloading it !!!!
At the moment the maps are working better in the cities. London seems okay but I would try it before buying to be sure. I'm sure it won't take Apple long to fix it. They are in lockdown with their maps team at the moment to sort this out. My area is rubbish in comparison to google but that's just me.
