What's new

The "Anything Goes" thread

Thanks Hayley.....It doesn't look that bad, there are a couple of small dints and scratches but the whole back end has moved, the boot pops now and needs to be slammed to close, the locking mechanism only works when it wants and all the panels are out of alignment.

What an awful experience for you! Your first car and new car are special purchases.....in a perfect world, you should get to enjoy that experience for longer than a day. ;)

Yes Admiral, thank goodness she wasn't injured.

She knew it was going to happen as she heard the squeal of brakes.......And she thinks the other driver, a young girl, may have been texting........

No wonder Police here are cracking down on the use of phones whilst driving.......they have been found in the hands of accident victims with the other person still on the line and wondering what has happened.

There was a harrowing story in the papers a week or two ago about a family whose daughter was killed and her car mangled thanks to another driver (drunk) and texting. The bereaved dad is hauling the wreck to different towns to get the message home.... Don't text and drive!

I am often tempted to knock on the windows of cars in the traffic queue near our home and telling the drivers to put away their mobile phones.

Sorry to hear about your daughter's car leelai, just glad she wasn't hurt. It is illegal to use any hand held device while driving in Ontario but you wouldn't think so judging by the number of drivers I spot on the phone or looking down into their laps while texting. The police are cracking down harder these days which is good.

A long time ago, I thought why don't motor manufacturers install a signal blocking device to prevent drivers using hand held phones. They way to access the phone would be via a hands free kit which is not signal blocked. The vehicle radio aerial would also cancel out the blocking.

I suppose the theory is nice, but the practical side prohibitive in cost. Then, what are lives worth?

The only problem with that is that cell phone jamming devices are illegal almost everywhere. BTW, studies have shown that hands free cell phones are just as dangerous as hand held ones when driving.

I didn't realise that. I was aware of it being illegal to jam broadcasts. I guess cell phones come within the umbrella of broadcasting devices.

I have seen stories about hands free being as dangerous as hand held. Then there are those who say listening to a radio changing channels etc can dangerous. It's a difficult arena to enter and deal with.

Of course phone providers have voice mail etc. Folk seem to be too impatient to put these services to good use!

Grumble over.

Thank you Roy Rob! I didn't enjoy those first few seconds when hubby received the call.....it's amazing what can go through your head in such a small amount of time.

Relief is understated!

Yes she's fine Ski.....just upset about the car. She had to wait until Saturday to get it.

It didn't even have a scratch on it and looked brand new inside and out.......:(

Sorry to hear that it happened, but happy to hear she wasn't hurt!

You and me both.......another lesson in life learnt.....goes to show just how easily accidents can happen!

A friend used to (still does) love the McRib. He swore it went off the market because it was really kangaroo meat and didn't care because he liked the taste. He said if it was rat meat he would eat it 'cause he liked the taste. Wonder what he'll say to this?

Would he eat it if it was made with Soylent Green?
