There are many do-it-yourself methods but I find it difficult to recommend them.
The best way to learn is to take lessons. A teacher offers encouragement and has the advantage of close observation.

Couple of questions.

Do you have a piano or access to one?
Can you read music?

I agree that private lessons are usually the way to go but I live in a tiny, dinky town that's about 50 miles from the nearest largest town so taking private lessons is out as there is no one here that teaches music sans a guitar lesson place which is something else I'm considering.

I want to be a complete musician that wants to learn piano/keyboard,violin,cello,bass,guitar,flutes and vocals as I want to start my own metal band. Ambitious I know but hey I love music so what can I say!!!!!

The nice thing about learning piano first is the other instruments come easy or easier when you have a keyboard discipline.

That said and knowing your location
predicament - learning guitar is a great second option. You have access to an instructor, and it's possible some of his / her students may already have keyboard experience. You could ask them to help you get started on piano too.

Regardless - it sounds like you want to play so just do it. You'll never regret at least trying.
And believe me, learning to read and write music unlocks a part of you that you're not familiar with yet. Music IS an adventure.

Keep us posted.

My sister-in-law is very low tech. She stopped by the library hoping to catch my wife. My wife was looking at some things on her iPad at the time and showed her sister. Needless to say the sister was amazed. My wife asked, "what do you think this is called?" Her sister's reply was, "a magic window?"

I was sitting at the table today going through snail mail advertisements. One from a wholesale violin maker company caught my eye. I was skimming the advertisement and talking with a friend when a sale for the T-2 Craft Razor Saw caught my eye. I stopped myself in time as I reached over to touch the paper so I could get more information. Technology is not quite there yet.

Heh. Have you noticed how more and more commercials use fake touch gestures to move text around, click on links, and swipe to new scenes?

I started noticing them about the time the iPad 2 debuted. It's so common now I barely notice, most of the time, but then it jumps out at me again; and I smile and shake my head.

It's pretty much taken the place of a pointer moving round on the screen and clicking on stuff. :)

Talking about musical talent,

One of our nephews had access to a keyboard and started playing. No one knew he had a musical talent. He can play guitar, but keyboard is his instrument. He gave up his engineering studies to become a professional musician.

He now runs a small business organising session musicians for parties, disco, weddings etc. His wife is a professional photographer, and they work together to provide an events package.

They have achieved a lot, but have to work hard to keep things going. You Tube is a good advertising medium for the music business.
