If you want to talk about bloatware, I was at Best Buy recently, looking at the Surface Pro. Out of an advertised 64GB, only just over 21GB was available as storage for the user. The rest was taken up by the OS and included programs, etc..

21gb left out of 64 !!! Jeeeez , that's a joke , that's less than a third of total memory .

How do people not see this ?

On last night's BBC1 consumer help programme, Watchdog they were talking about the cheapest Galaxy 4. At least 50% of the memory is taken up by the fancy interface and OS. Then when users try to transfer their many apps from their old phone, nearly all available memory is used up, leaving about 2Gb spare for files!

So on the surface pro , at 128 gb , the operating system and others take up a massive 42gb! I'm speechless , sorry , but I'm just lost for words on that at the moment :-( !!!

Here we all are rendered speechless by stories of bloatware ( I call it lazy programming amongst other things) and Nathan chips in with an update on old technology. You bring me back to earth Nathan. I love it ;)

BTW, with expensive limited memory at their disposal, the programmers of old had to design very small apps to take up as Iittle space as possible.
