TIPS AND TRICKS - for those of us who don't know!

iPad Screen Zoom

One of our esteemed members was having difficulty reading the small font on the new FaceBook App...and there's no way to adjust it. I suggested taking advantage of the iPad's accessibility option to overcome that. It will work with all iPad apps AFAIK. Here's how and a little demo...

First you need to enable screen zoom:

Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom > Zoom On

Once enabled you can Zoom in by double-tapping with three fingers. Initially when you do that it'll just zoom in a little bit. To increase the zoom double tap with three fingers and then hold. Sliding your three fingers up will zoom in as far as you'd like and sliding them down will zoom out. To move around the page once you're zoomed in just tap and hold with three fingers and slide them around on the screen. To return the screen to normal double tap with three fingers.

Hope that helps folks that need to see things on a slightly grander scale!

Using Gmail and was wondering how you would go about selecting a sentence in "compose" email to delete or cut and paste? Is it possible or am I expecting too much. From time to time we get an email in that you want to forward, but the person sending it to you has left in the email addresses of all the other people it was sent to previously instead of using Bcc. I would want to delete these email addresses in one go instead of using the back button to delete it line by line! Pet hate people not using Bcc! Thanks.

Press 'forward', in the forwarded message delete the info you need by touching that text, and tapping 'select' or 'select all' in the bubble. Move the 'handles' to highlight as required and press the delete key.

Depending on content, I copy the body of the needed text into a new email which saves a lot of faffing about :)

? Explain please :)

I was responding to this earlier post,,,sorry.

Speaking of keeping the iPad's screen pristine, I've found that iKlear does a terrific job of cleaning the iPad's Oleophobic glass as well as reducing future Angry Birds finger print tracks!

Amazon.com: Klear Screen iKlear iPod, iBook & PowerBook Cleaning Kit: Electronics

Unlike a typical glass cleaner it acts more like a glass "wax". Spray it on, rub it around and polish it up. It not only cleans off the cruft but helps keep prints to a minimum, allowing those that do accumulate to be wiped off much easier. Highly recommended for those with a bad Cheetos habit.

P.S. Only use this product on glass screens...it'll make a mess of anything else.

To move the split keyboard on iPad tap and hold the keyboard button in the bottom right, and slide your finger up and down. The keyboard will follow.

Safari Word Search - iOS 5

In previous iPad OS's you could find a specific word or phrase in the Safari Browser by typing what you're looking for into the Google search bar at the top of the browser. In the drop down menu the last entry was "On This Page" along with a count of how many times the item was found (or say "No matches"). Tapping on the findings would take you to each result.

With Safari on iOS 5 tapping inside the Google search bar still brings up the virtual keyboard so you can type an entry, however the keyboard now has a "Find on Page" of its own! Type what you're looking for there and it automatically finds and highlights the item. Press the forward or back button next to the search field to move around the page.

Someone had asked about searching web pages in the iPad's Safari Browser on another part of the forum, so I thought it might be nice to include it here as well. :)
