Even this close to launch we still haven’t had the chance to see that many iPad-specific games in action, so it’s really nice to see these screenshots from Tequila Mobile and I-Play’s forthcoming iPad game, Warships – Sea on Fire. The game has been designed from the ground up with the iPad in mind, with an iPad-dedicated, full-screen HD and UI.
The game basically plays a lot like a fancy version of Battleships, with players getting the chance to participate in 60 grid-based battles across three different themed areas – World War I, Pirates and Science Fiction. Each theme has its own dedicated music and sound effects. You start Navy Career mode as a lowly Ensign, and climb up through the ranks to eventually become Fleet Admiral. On the way up the career ladder you can also earn medals, titles and rewards.
There’s been a lot of talk about the iPad reinventing the board game and the table-top family gaming experience, so it will be very interesting indeed to see if an iPad version of a simple classic such as Battleships takes off.
