Richard, have been looking for the thread you started (I think?) about historical events that happened "on this day" previously.

So will post this weather-related news here instead; hope that's acceptable.

On this day 60 tears ago, the UK Devon towns of Lynmouth & Lynton were devastated after torrential rain plunged down the narrow ravines from Exmoor. Many died. I read 9 inches of rain in 24 hours--astronomical.
