What's new

Weather

I have two colleagues who live and work in New York.
Spoke last night to the one who's on Long Island. His family has spent the last 72 hours laying in extra supplies,
ensuring the sump pumps work properly and testing their generator.
He's an "all hands on deck" kinda guy.

Not sure if this belongs in the weather thread but ....
There was a Mag 7+ earthquake in British Columbia several hours ago.
The ground shock was widespread and a sea surge has been reported.

Wonder if Kevin felt anything if he was on the road.

I live on a small island on the New Jersey shore and am currently taking a break from battoning down the hatches. We sent our son inland to higher ground and plan on staying with our home. Getting pretty surreal now.

All the best to you and yours......

Really hope it will be okay for everyone!

Here's a map from the Weather Channel, showing the area where Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall.

My, that covers such a large area......:(

That outer orange band is going to push into parts of Canada including eastern Ontario where
I'm located, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

On another note - the 7.7 earthquake in British Columbia last night has been determined to be the most powerful in Canada since 1949.

A wide array of seismic data show the shock wave travelled north to the Alaska panhandle and south towards California and south west to the Hawaiian islands.

Yes I heard about that, AA. Also, any news of the tsunami that was threatened at Hawaii?

Didn't feel a thing. I just checked and I'm 875 kilometres from the epicentre. Still snowing here, by the way.

Our planet is truly amazing.

Physically insignificant in the universe - and too vast to imagine when you're bound to it.
