I have some clearing work ahead of me. I don't mind. I always clear a strip along the public footpath in front of our garden.

It's still dark outside, but my indoor temperature monitor is saying cloudy skies today. It's 13F at this fine hour!

What's the state of air travel this morning?

AA

Stanstead airport is open. I don't know about the other airports. Our niece & her BH fly to Frankfurt from Stanstead this morning.

I see a young woman died of exposure in Kent, Richard. She wasn't dressed for the weather. She came home from a night out and her sister wasn't in so she waited outside and froze. People underestimate how serious freezing temps can be.

Not too bad here right now. -16°C. Skin doesn't freeze until -25° so we're comfortable enough, especially with a coffee in sight.

Beautiful pictures, Richard. I especially like the kids sledding in the first picture and also the parakeet!

Thanks, Richard. What's the small brick building with the enormous chimney?

Thanks for your comments. The sun was out and that presented an opportunity too good to pass :)

The building with the huge chimney was built in the 1860s from Kentish ragstone. It's a water pumping station and is listed - Grade II, I believe. Soon after we moved to Bromley, Thames Water converted a building to the right of the pumping station into flats and terraced houses, and built a small block of flats all to release land, surplus buildings and raise funds. If we had had the money we would have bought one of the flats to rent out. The fit out of the flats is absolutely fantastic - windows with triple glazing to keep out the noise of the trains as they pass by within 50 yards of the back windows. Rooms are spacious and the internal layout of the flats is Excellant.

I haven't seen that story, Hayles. Mind you we see a lot of people going out to scantily clad for these conditions around here. Our grandmothers used to have a saying but I cannot remember it.
