Just took a couple of photos of the equestrian statue of Queen Elizabeth II in front of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building. It was erected in honour of the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
A miniature version of this statue is in the room at Buckingham Palace used for the Queen's weekly meetings with the Prime Minister.

Interesting photos. The Queen is riding side saddle as she used to regularly and the horse is "Burmese", a favourite who was given to her by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police when they came to perform in the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 1969. She rode her for 18 consecutive years from 1969 to 1986 at the annual Trooping the Colour in London. Many of us will remember how sad it was when she rode her for the last time at the Trooping.
Didn't know about the miniature copy at the palace, but that figures; horses are and always have been her passion.

Wiki has a photo showing her on Burmese at the last Trooping in 1986 with The Duke of Edinburgh on the right and Prince Charles on the left. Here:

Watching "Secret Millionaire", while waiting for "Endeavour" to start on PBS. I really enjoyed the Inspector Morse shows.

I believe the miniature copy was given to the Queen by the Government of Saskatchewan.

It looks like you had perfect weather for the day. At least the rain held off till after sunset.

Sent from my iPad 1 using iPF - Greetings

I'm currently catching up on these threads in between adding more facts to my family tree. The facts were downloaded from the British Newspaper Archive by my cousin in Edmonton.
I'm finding out about a farming ancestor whose house stock etc were auctioned off over 3 days some months after he died. His farm is now under the runways and buildings of RAF Cranwell.

That would have been a fantastic choice of gift for the Queen and bet she was genuinely thrilled. She loved that horse. After Burmese retired to Windsor, she decided not to ride at the Trooping again rather than get another horse trained up.
