Great idea. We'll christen it with a cookout and a few bottles, then head for the Rockies and do some skiing. It would make for a good weekend. I'll let the wife know a few friends will be dropping by, 224,000 of them.

Maybe you can fashion a covered wagon style trailer to tow behind your tractor and take us on an Alaska Highway odyssey. :)

Here's the "before" picture. I have about 20 feet to play with on two levels.

Here's the latest on the table.

Stained and drying ready for varathane finish.

Looking good,Kevin. Will the varathane finish darken it any more?

You can sure see the difference in the amount of stain that different kinds of wood will absorb. It gives a nice framing effect to the table top.

That's true. Cedar takes a huge amount, oak much less so, and as it dries the oak squeezes some of the stain back onto the surface.

I was a bit dubious as the stain was going on, but it looks OK now.

That could be fun.

I fancy an Iditerod-type thing. With husky dogs and sledges.

But wouldn't fancy getting lost out in the tundra, being attacked by wolverines or bears. So would it be legal to sledge along the Alaska Highway? Going by the videos, it doesn't get much traffic anyway, just a few trucks. :-) I would promise to keep well into the left hand side, out of the way. Whoops, I mean right...

I need to know well in advance because I need to search out the dogs & sledge. Come to think of it, seen some great photos of huskies on the pets thread. The owners would surely be willing to loan them for such a good cause?

You would need a pretty powerful set of huskies to get up Sikanni Chief. I have a video link on here somewhere of that hill. It's quite something even for a 550 hp truck.

Right now, it's RV time on the Alaska Highway. It's still nearly empty by UK standards but vacationing Americans add quite a bit to the traffic at this time of year.

Here's my table. The stain has had all night to dry and I'm very pleased with the result.
