Did you notice any similarities when this happens? What did you try to solve your problem?

I haven't solved the problem , I have a lot of plist errors in the error log though .
It crashes often , regardless of which app I'm using . I've restarted numerous times . Reset ipad a lot :-(
When it restarts there's massive lag just when entering unlock code then there's minimal response when opening apps and the activity circle keeps appearing like it's working overtime .
I've closed a load if tabs in safari , simultaneously though an app I purchased last year that's no longer in App Store ( vdownloader +) seems fit to delete my entire library contents randomly too, which I find disturbing ..!

The app however works fine on my phone , so I'm not ready to point the finger of blame to that just yet despite its random deletions .

The ipad however is struggling , yet last night it worked fine even during graphics intense gaming .
Today it's not playing ball .

Try to restart it and force close apps. Then reset it again. If this doesn't help, reset all settings (Settings - General - Reset). Hopefully this will solve it. Next step would be erasing it and restoring from a backup.

If there's an Apple Store near you, perhaps you could take it there. Maybe they can help you.

I've just tried to update it and all of a sudden it turned off , restarted and now says ' connect to itunes' ! NOT what I wanted to see , now I'm hoping that my documents and media I have such as photos , PDFs etc arn't compromised .

I didn't know it's not up to date. Do you backup your iPad regularly? This should include photos in any case. What happens to the PDFs, depends on where they are stored. If they are in online storage such as Dropbox, they are safe.
