We might have snow again on Saturday, but meanwhile a few critters think it might be spring.

I didn't think robins ate at feeders, but this one sampled the suet.
This is the first day I've seen a chipmunk since last fall.

Look at the cheek pouches on that chipmunk!

Is it a chipmunk? Or are you just fooling?

So so cute regardless!

The chipmunk was out for the first time and didn't believe his good luck in finding all that food under the bird feeder. He tried to put it ALL in his pouches. As the snow melts it uncovers seeds that were spilled by starlings and blue jays and covered up before the rabbits, squirrels, and birds got to them. There's a feast down there.

He is going to be the worlds fattest chipmunk......good for him!

Chipmunks--arrgghhh!! Where are the hawks and coyotes when you need them?

Sure, the little rodents are cute. But they burrow everywhere, undermining the porch slab and leaving holes in the lawn. One little bugger chewed away the weatherstripping at the bottom of the garage door so it can come and go at will. One day, it will die inside, and the stench will be hideous. They don't hibernate, and are active year round. They are important predators of baby birds; I watched a chipmunk kill and eat a fledgling cardinal. There's really no way to control them, because they breed so fast there are always more to take over vacated territories.

They are sold as pets over here, it'll only take someone to release a pair and we will have them breeding right across the country.

Great pics! Love the chipmunk pic..I haven't had an opportunity to get a shot of a chipmunk yet! They are too quick and darting!

Lots of unmelted snow and a partly cloudy sky, shortly after sunset.

The second shot of the sky behind your home is quite a dramatic look, Sci!

Look at the cheek pouches on that chipmunk!

I know..it looks like he had his wisdom teeth pulled and needs a cold pack! :)

That'd be a Chipmunk! Cute little guy, isn't he!! :)

They can be quite destructive, particularly if you live close to a wooded area. I haven't seen many around our house the last 2 years, maybe they've been picked off!

They are? I had no idea!! Maybe that's the equivalent of having a pet gerbil here!

We have pet gerbils as well.....I've never seen anyone with a pet chipmunk but they always seem to have them in cages in the pet stores, they move so fast though that I'd need some kind of special vision to be able to see them if I kept them.
