What is it?-Discussions

The second picture shows my workbench. The holes are the same size as the metal object.

I would like to post this reminder about the use of images obtained from the Internet in What is it? Challenges. They're not allowed. Here's rule number 2.

2):No photos found on the Internet or elsewhere are allowed unless proper credit is given.

If you can't take your own photo of a challenge subject, place that challenge in reserve until such time as you can provide your own photos of the item. Thank you.

Mea culpa :-(
Should have done a painting instead, in which case, could have made them a bit bigger... Serena's lovely purple knickers, I mean, of course.

I've never seen that type of orange peeler before, Stranding

I score orange peel with a small kitchen knife.

So, another kitchen gadget to look out for. The trouble is, the gadgets I want are excluded from Debenhams current ongoing sale. :(

Sent from my iPad 1 using iPF - Greetings

Here is the favourite orange peeler we had, but broke. Difficult to remember now the exact details but this was the general shape. The head was good at being pulled along & round, cutting the skin at an angle (clever but that's the bit I'm vague about). The palm end was shaped and sharpish to deal with the pith bits...the pithtitivator, if you like!

Yes. Nothing like jamming your thumb through the rind - wedging a bit between the nail and skin. The pain being nothing short of exquisite when the acidic juice from the orange connects with the fresh wound. It's why I prefer orange juice from a box.

Lol
What bugs me every time is when the squirt travels, with great accuracy, neatly around your specs lense & hits you you dead in the eye. How do oranges get to be so ummm... well, let's stick with something polite... orange?

The Orange H. Collider?

I remember we had a few of these in the late 70s, my mum was a Tupperware rep so our house was always full of wonderful kitchen gadgets :-)

Aha! What a useful type of Mum. You don't happen to have any of those OHCs leftover anywhere?

I'm certain there's an equation in quantum physics that explains everything.

Yes:-)

If we can work out the maths (apple keeps insisting on "Mathis"), that might point to a way of developing a defence. Or a weapon of course.

There may be some handy Q.P among the members?

If not, rather than go bother Stephen Hawking, who is probably busy with other cutting edge stuff (ha!), we could decide to plump for the answer as

Either:

Sod's Law

Or

I've come to throw in my two cents worth into the orange peeler topic.
Here are two that I have. The yellow one is by Tupperware and the blue one is by Sunkist.

Isn't it an eye opener how many different approaches there have been to the designing of a deceptively simple tool? If there are this many different ones unearthed so far, makes one wonder how many more there may be.

These are the closest I've seen to the one we had. They both look sturdy, especially the blue one. Our one had a twist along the length, so the pith end was set at what looks like a right-angle to this yellow one, and curved, more like the blue one, but curved in the opposite direction...

Which would you pick up as first choice?

The yellow one is made of nylon and much sturdier than the blue one which appears to be moulded out of a less durable plastic.
The loop on the top of the blue one is used to peel the zest from the Orange.

Oh, I wondered what that was for. A useful addition if it works well.
