Where in the world?-discussions

I'll be off line for most of the next week. Have fun while I'm gone. I'll be up the Cassiar Highway, near Alaska. There's no Internet up there, so I'll be maintaining an uncharacteristic silence.

Hope the road's good at least.

That was a very exhausting witw.
Sorry if my info was a bit unreliable.
Was unintentional.
Hope all still had some fun.

We should probably stick more to the location being the answer, rather than having the location as a clue to some other question.

While it might be fun, and informative, to dig around looking for uses to which an area has been put, it has the potential to become exclusive to people who, for example, have watched a certain movie, or are involved in a particular industry. I would like to keep WitW open to as many people as possible, so my suggestion is that the final answer should always be the location shown in the photograph, with as much detail as you think fit, even down to a street address if necessary.

If anyone wants to come back with more information about a location, and things that may have happened there, this thread would be an ideal place to do it. The game has always been about education, and I, for one, have an endless appetite for trivia, so information is always welcome.

If anyone else has any thoughts about the game in general, or specifics as to how we can make it even more user-friendly, please feel free to pitch in with ideas.

If your only available picture of the challenge location lacks detail,it might be a good idea to give an additional clue in the initial challenge post. You can also ask that the winner supply as much detail about the challenge location as you desire.Popular words and phrases relating to the challenge location have also been popular as additional clues.

So I was wrong about the minarets. Just shows that assumption is a dangerous tool. Tuscany, eh? Drove round nearly every village in the region, but still managed not to see those towers. I'm beginning to wonder whether I've really been trucking for 28 years or whether I went to bed and dreamed that I did.

Never mind Kevin. I haven't been to most of where you've been so don't panic. Never too old!

Cannot believe i missed the witw on San Gimignano.
We stay there for weeks a few years ago.
Great restaurant La Cisterna up in one of the towers.
Had the best pasta with wild boar I have every tasted.

Well, it gave me a chance to sneak into this thread for a change. Thanks Julie!

I'm not as fussed as I make out, Hayles. I've been lucky enough to see a helluva lot during my time on the road, and I'm thankful for that. Now I'm mooching around Canada, I see parts of the country that most Canadians don't know exist, so the adventure continues. If I'd had access to the information I have now, no-one would have gotten a stroke of work out of me; I'd have been too busy sightseeing, so perhaps it's for the best.

When I took my truckdriving lessons all those years ago, no-one cared to explain to me how you drive at 60 miles per hour and avoid crashing into buffalo, how to find your way around when you can't read the local alphabet or how you drive a 60 tonne vehicle on a sheet of ice so I've learned a lot, and I'm still learning.

One reason I can claim to be living the dream.

Good for you! I can't imagine driving all those miles! 3 miles to work and back again is about my limit. Oh and visiting all my National Trust properties too! No traffic! Only tractors and silly mummies driving their kids to school who should observe the speed limit in my village.

I've been thinking of getting a bumper sticker for the back of my truck. I already worded it and a friend of mine, who is a cop, loves it.

Welcome to the speed limit. I realize you have more pressing things to do that dawdle along at a safe speed but please feel free to look around and enjoy the view, until you come to the next blind bend where you may take your life in your hands and overtake me. By the way, the finger that will inevitably extend from your window will have no effect on me as I will be looking the other way. Have a nice day.
