Where in the world?-discussions

It was the other day! There is a blind bend coming up to our driveway and you have to look for traffic and accelerate fast to get onto road. A little white van man came up behind me, pumping his horn, flashing his lights. This is a 30 mile zone and if he came up that fast behind me then he was speeding. I kept the 30mph speed limit and you could tell he was annoyed. When we hit the 60mph section, he overtook pumping his horn and flashing his lights as well! I ignored him so any fingers thrust my way were not noticed. Why are people like this. Trying to get wherever they want to go at the fastest speed they can. They are the ones that cause other people to crash or crash themselves. Rant over! But I was furious as well!

The steeple of the Suurhusen church, inclined at an angle of 5.19 degrees, is the second most leaning tower of the world.

That was a good one. Searching Google images for "red brick church leaning tower" gave the answer almost immediately. Inevitably the more famous version at Pisa was front and center, but the church did appear on the first page.

As we are having a run on churches and cathedrals, I thought I'd chuck in my top ten for anyone who is thinking of going on a road trip. In no particular order they are:-

Lincoln
Lichfield
Köln (Germany)
Salisbury
St Paul's, London
Burgos (Spain)
St Dénis (France)
Winchester
Sacre-Cœur (France)
Milan, Italy

That should keep you busy.

Looks interesting. Unfortunately, time has caught up with me and I'm about to hit the road. I'll look in when I stop at Smithers but after that, I won't be around for a couple of days.

Do take care out there Kevin.

Happy trucking!

Back in the land of electricity and 3G service. Sad to have to report that things are changing up on the Cassiar Highway. North of the Stewart/Hyder junction, a major project is underway to bring transmission lines to the area. I know progress has no patience, but it saddens me because the first job in construction is destruction. There are huge piles of trees being burned by the side of the road as land is being cleared for the project. Hopefully, the area can recover once the lines are in place.

It's still winter up there. North of Stewart, the lakes are still frozen, and the snow is lying deep, although the avalanche signs have been taken down, so the majority of the snow has gone.

I counted 14 black bears on my way up the road and a further 6 on my way back. Also saw a few moose.

Back in Alberta. Nearly got took out going through Jasper National Park by a maniacal reefer driver who was on my side of the road at I don't know what kind of speed. Gotta love some truckers. Time to hit the sack. It's been a long week so far. Close to 2000 miles in 4 days, and most of it undivided highway. Good views out of the window though.

Good to see WitW has gone over 3000 posts and shows no sign of slacking off. Good job, y'all.
