Will Siri be avaliable for ipad2?

Does anyone know if the new Siri personal assistant that's in the iPhone 4S will be available for the iPad2. I've heard it won't be available for iPhone 4, just the iPhone 4S as it needs the A5 processor.

All indications are that it is an iPhone 4S only app. The processing power of the iPad is sufficient, of course, since it's identical to the new iPhone. But at least initially Apple is "baking it into" the iPhone as a differentiating feature. It's critical there because Android phones have had similar (though apparently more limited) apps available for quite some time. Likewise, although Siri is arguably worthwhile on a tablet, its most impressive features emerge in a highly mobile device that is dedicated to a great extent to communications. And that's the iPhone, not the iPad.

Finally, I suspect that Apple needed a headline feature for the iPhone 4S. Considering that so many fans were expecting a super phone, the fact that the announcements were mainly centered on a refresh of the iPhone 4 has obviously been a disappointment to many. Siri at least provides what is either a step forward in the use of a personal device or a gimmick meant to conceal the lack of revolutionary change in the iPhone, depending on your point of view.

I agree it would be most useful on the phone, especially since it is supposed to work with a bluetooth headset.

Some people have commented about how awkward and embarrassing it would be to talk to your phone in public, and I more or less agree, but when I'm driving it's another world. Imagine being able to ask the time, distance to destination, directions to the nearest gas station, or even calling home all without that awkward need to remember exactly how to phrase the question. You can even dictate that random idea you had when you saw the Smart car cut off a two trailer truck loaded with cement blocks.

Too cool.

(and too much money to upgrade off contract, unfortunately. )

The one problem with using Siri while driving is activating it. I believe that you still need to hold down the Home button to open Siri. At times, this may be difficult when driving. It would be nice if you can open Siri with a unique voice command, like "Open Siri", then the whole device and Siri can function solely by voice. Maybe something to consider for iPhone5 and/or iPad3.

The one problem with using Siri while driving is activating it. I believe that you still need to hold down the Home button to open Siri. At times, this may be difficult when driving.

It is supposed to work with Bluetooth headsets. I can get voice dialing by holding down the answer button on my Jawbone. I suspect Siri would replace that function on the iPhone 4S.

I use a parrot MKi9200 integrated car system and I am hoping they will be able to add the ability to use Siri when direct connected to the system. I will test the iPhone 4s once I receive it.

I'm sure Siri will be available for the iPad 2.... someday.

Someday meaning after Apple banks on the Siri app for the 4S, or if/when the hype for Siri dies down and they realize pushing it out to other devices might bring back that hype.

For all we know, we may just end up having to buy the app from iTunes, even though it comes free on the 4S.

I hope one day, because i have a car mount for my iPad. It'd be really helpful having Siri, but I do wonder how well it'd work..

Apple would be very cruel to put Siri on the iPad 3 and not the iPad 2.

Oh well, I will probably get the iPad 3 anyway.
