Thank you for switching over from the thrills and excitement of the London Olympics 2012 thread.

Here are some touristy shots of Greenwich, showing how the Greenwich Pier has been developed, and Cutty Sark fully restored and raised up onto her glass wave.

There was a food etc festival going on by the Olde Naval College. Yesterday, Greenwich really sparked and shone for so many great reasons. :) :) :)

This is from The Atlanta Botanical Gardens in Atlanta, Georgia. The fountain topper is a glass sculpture from Dale Chihuly.

Our great niece will be with us for the English August bank holiday. I'm planning a trip to Hampton Court Palace by train and boat. I hope my wife agrees to this and that the weather will be fine.

This video clip shows why I have posted on this thread

BTW our GNiece is interested in Anne Boleyn. Yes everything connects :)

What a brilliant idea for the bank hol! Especially if the weather is good. That video is an excellent marketing ploy:-):-)

Hampton Court is a great place for A.B. etc but if I was your wife, would also want to include another stop-off at John Lewis--long enough for a quick browse around sort of thing...:-).

You could stay in the bar perhaps? Might get in the way if you went "browsing" too...

Giggle!
One thing you really must decline to help with is the pushing the boat out from the jetty as you start the return trip. That looks very dicey to me. Not a job that would leave one DRY:-):-):-)

Right at the end of the video, there was a tiny snip of a mosaic of the boat which looked rather good. Would love a better photo of that if you can find it?

London Open House weekend is on 22 & 23 Sept this year. It will be possible to find places to visit and book tours online.

These weekends are a must do and happen once a year. http://www.londonopenhouse.org/

This looks interesting. Like the key logo design- with the landmark building roofline shapes cut out!

Yes, the weekends are great. You see groups or single folk wandering around on their itineraries clutching the guide books and gazing up at different buildings.

I think there is a national heritage weekend the weekend before London's.

I have certainly visited places I wouldn't otherwise. Volunteers are on hand at each building to guide, or answer questions. Also some host organisations print useful information as free handouts.

I cannot praise the weekends highly enough.

Let's hope some of us get to see some of the buildings, and post photos and impressions. :) :) :)

With heightened security over the last decade,
has the conduct of this event changed? Certain buildings removed from the list, access issues etc? Just curious.
