Architecture - buildings that is

We saw the beginnings of today's all encompassing Olympics security measures at the Montreal Olympics in 1976. These measures were in response to the murder of the Israeli delegation at the Munich Olympics in 1972.

Hi AA, security is certainly an issue. People are more aware and careful. There are security checks in some places. Sensitive sites, such as government buildings can still be visited. However access is to public areas with offices nd sensitive areas strictly out of bounds. The numbers visiting buildings at any one time are controlled to keep things manageable. Also there is a high staff presence in many buildings.

Some venues are withdrawn for various reasons, such as perceived lack of interest in the venue, costs in running open day/s. Etc.

There were questions as to whether these weekends would end in the current climate, but the weekends continue.

Please post pictures. That's the only way I'll get to see this - and I want to.

I certainly will. Here are some photos I took during the 2009 weekend. One site needs no introduction. The other is an architect's basement flat in a lovely terrace of large houses in West London. The mood lighting was great, as was his use of space.

Richard, judging be the green hue in the hallway shot and the shocking pink bathtub, you must have been visiting Claude Neon's home. ;)

It could be a sign of the times AA! :)

That terrace building is one beautiful plié of bricks! (meant that to be "pile" but am rather impressed with the spell checker's correctly accented e -- what a show off:-))

Love the pink bath with the grey surround--great colour combination--plus jacussi. But.....how would I get into that? Let alone get out again:-(

And those bar stools? How to get up onto one of them? And stay there safely? I can only see the "Danger of Death" skull & crossbones labels, like those attached all over anything with wheels bought to help with personal moving around!

And apart from the bathroom, a dearth of colour:-( Yes, I know, not fashionably minimalist, but it's an essential for me; I would wither there without it:-(

As a contrast & to show my personal take on colours, perhaps this is the moment & place to post the photo of this mosaic in progress (of which my current seagull avatar is a crop).

If not, my apologies.

NB: Unfinished front section, waiting for the sides to be completed before being screwed home, grouted & narrow framing added. I was thinking of the surrounding fields in summer, with buttercups one side and poppies the other.

But it could "be" anything, just an exercise in colour, the way I weave.

Worth coming home to that, to warm your bones by the fire.
Nice work.

Thank you, your comments are much appreciated. I do like its' presence in the room, even with it unfinished.

(Will a cheque be OK? :-))

The compliment was genuine.
Viewing it was compensation enough.
Maybe I should commission something and send YOU the cheque. :)

Yes, I know... & I thank you genuinely.
But some of us over here are not very good at handling this stuff...the others will know what I mean. I'm squirming around like a fish on a hook that you might catch on your outing with that blue reel.

Now, dosh coming in this direction sounds a much better idea!!

But as I'm one of those Brits (who are known to be a dodgy job lot & definitely not trustworthy) the thing might never arrive at your end. Then -- jailbroken -- before I've even gotten (get that alien slang!) to the bottom of the iPF bowels. Oh Woe:-(

Think I should scarper before Richard gets back & sees his thread's been taken over by an Artful Dodger:-)

When I return to my job next week I'll try to
get some pics of architecture unique to Canada's
capital city.

That sounds good, will look forward to seeing them. And so will Richard, I'm sure!
