What's new

Architecture - buildings that is

The biggest problem I see with the ultra modern design is it's longevity. These types of building are designed with a limited lifespan. The historical restoration and renovation options would, with proper maintenance, last indefinitely, barring natural disasters like the earthquake of 2010.

I like the second option. It needs to be long lasting and earthquake proof? Surely?

Even the first option would require that the Cathedral be brought up to modern building codes. The chief advantage of option 2 over option 1 is cost.

That's what I thought. First option is going to be costly and that initial price will rise. It usually does.

Here's another photo of the Saskatchewan Legislature Building.

What an incredible building, is it as impressive inside? I don't recall seeing a domed building with such a dark dome before it really is striking, and I bet it stands out in the winter snow.

The dome is copper that's been treated to turn it black. The inside is quite spectacular, with imported marble from around the world and fresco paintings.

The new BBC HQ seen from Oxford Circus. The church spire in front of the centre is to All Souls, Langham Place.

Great pictures, as usual. Were you out shopping?

Is there an Apple store nearby?:)

Yes, there is a large store at 235 Regent St., which is about 100 yards south of Oxford Circus.

Then the John Lewis Dept store has a great Apple section alongside TVs radios and cameras. A superb toy dept. ;)
